  • Responsible for providing trade skill services in the assembly, setup, operation and maintenance of systems potentially involving toxic chemicals, microbiologicals (pathogenic and non-pathogenic), and other substances or equipment which are a source of hazards to human health and safety
  • Extensive travel, up to 50% of the time for up to 30 days in duration, is required for this position.
  •  Performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on chemical and biological processing systems, equipment, components and the supporting infrastructure/interfacing systems
  • Performs set up, calibration, and operation of test and diagnostic equipment to support hazardous agent operations at fixed site and field site locations using standard, manual, powered and specialized tools
  • Responsible for strict adherence to documented operation and maintenance procedures and technical manuals to include exceptional safety practices, and highly organized records management
  • Daily tasks require standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, frequently handling objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, and over 50 pounds with assistance from others or weight handling equipment, for setting up systems and equipment and in completing task assignments
  • Working conditions include tasks being performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather and/or in remote field site environments


  • Formal education, apprenticeship experience or professional certification in electrical trade is required
  • High school diploma plus proficiency with computer software to include Microsoft Word and Excel
  • The wearing of steel-toed safety footwear is mandatory
  • Must successfully complete 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training from an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) authorized provider along with additional chemical and biological safety training
  • Must meet and adhere to all physical and medical requirements for use of military-issue, full-face, tight-fitting, air-purifying respirators, which use filters, cartridges, and/or canisters. This involves a respiratory medical clearance, medical physical examination, and proper fit testing for use of respiratory protection
  • Must complete Red Cross accredited First Aid/CPR course to include annual refreshers with recertification
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and become certified operator of industrial vehicles (e.g., forklift)
