Responsibilities

Seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support work at EPA’s National Center for Computational Toxicology, Durham, NC.

  • Design, develop and document a process for daily, weekly and monthly patching, upgrades, and tuning for system maintenance and security vulnerabilities
  • Design and develop a plan/process for hardware refresh and future acquisitions
  • Document and validate procedures for disaster recovery
  • Document and evaluate parameters and metrics for the SAN
  • Document and analyze local policies regarding system access, network rights, and physical access to systems and equipment
  • Document and provide a report on system operating metrics for consistency, reliability, and availability
  • Perform other duties as required.

This position will provide technical assistance, analysis and troubleshooting of a variety of Linux systems. The systems will need to be maintained and optimized through daily, weekly and monthly patching, upgrades, and tuning as required. This position will assist other personnel with the implementation of the operating system releases and help to maintain the operational status of systems. Tasks will include the development of recommendations for the acquisition of hardware and software necessary to support future IT requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree preferably in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience. Additional education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Must possess expertise in the following:

      RedHat Linux version 6 & 7

      RedHat Jboss

      Apache Tomcat software

      Docker

      Ability to develop scripts to automate tasks (log rotation, temp space cleanup etc.)

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases including MongoDB, MySQL and PostgreSQ
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development practice
  • Solid understanding of best practices and standard operating procedures for systems administration
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work individually, and as a member of a team, on multiple projects simultaneously.
